PGT door installation in Pasadena typically runs between $450 and $1,300 per door, depending on whether we’re replacing a single component like a roller assembly or doing a full slab swap with new hinges and weatherstripping. We stock PGT-compatible rollers, hinges, sweeps, and locking hardware on our trucks, and most single-door installations are completed same-visit in about two to three hours. The way most Pasadena homeowners discover a PGT door problem is gradual: the door starts dragging against the threshold in June, gets harder to lock by September, and by the time the Santa Ana winds arrive, the latch no longer lines up with the strike plate at all.
Which PGT Models This Applies To
PGT builds three door lines we see most often in Pasadena: the WinGuard series (impact-rated for windborne debris, common in hillside homes above the 210), the SpectraGuard series (their mid-tier vinyl lineup), and the ClassicVue series (aluminum-framed sliders and French doors). Each series uses different roller assemblies, hinge geometry, and threshold profiles, and the parts are not interchangeable across lines. The fastest way to identify what you have is to look at the spacer bar between the glass panes or the corner of the door frame for a laser-etched PGT logo and a series number, usually starting with WG, SG, or CV. If the etching has faded, we measure the stile width and roller housing depth in the field. For PGT specifically, we recommend OEM parts over aftermarket equivalents in almost every case. PGT machines their roller tracks to a width tolerance that generic hardware-store rollers don’t match, and a mismatched roller will wear the track unevenly within a year. The one exception is door sweeps and weatherstripping, where quality aftermarket profiles often outperform the original at a lower price. Keep in mind that Lightwell Windows Pasadena is an independent service provider, not affiliated with PGT, so we source both OEM and aftermarket parts and tell you honestly which one fits the job.

Signs Your PGT Door Installation Is Failing
- Door drags or sticks in one spot along the track. This almost always points to a collapsed roller bearing. PGT rollers on original builds from the early 2010s used nylon wheels that eventually flatten on one side, especially on west-facing doors that bake in afternoon sun.
- Locking hardware won’t line up with the strike plate. As the door settles or the hinges wear, the latch drops a fraction of an inch. Homeowners often force the lock, which chews up the strike plate and makes the real fix more expensive.
- Air or dust comes in around the door edges. Pasadena’s dry season sends fine grit into every gap. When the weatherstripping compresses and hardens, that grit works its way inside and the door starts leaking conditioned air.
- Handle feels loose or flops when you lift it. On WinGuard doors, the internal multipoint lock mechanism connects to the handle through a gearbox that wears out. The handle gets progressively sloppier before the lock stops engaging altogether.
- Condensation or haze between the glass panes. That is a failed seal on the insulated glass unit. It does not affect the door’s structural function, but it cannot be cleaned off from either side. The glass unit in a PGT door is replaceable without swapping the entire slab.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Pasadena, a PGT door installation falls into three price bands. Roller or hinge replacement runs $450 to $700, including parts and labor. A multipoint lock mechanism or full hardware replacement lands between $600 and $950. A complete door slab replacement, including new hinges, weatherstripping, and re-hanging the panel, runs $850 to $1,300. What moves the number within those ranges is access: a second-story door with a narrow stairwell takes longer than a ground-floor slider. Every Lightwell quote includes the parts, the labor, the removal of the old hardware, and a written line-item price before any work starts. We do not hand you a bigger number at the end. Keith Yamada’s crew photographs the cleanup before leaving, and every PGT door installation is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if something about the finished work is not right, we make it right without a debate.
DIY or Call Us?
PGT doors are not like a standard big-box slider. The rollers, hinges, and locking hardware sit inside milled channels that are unforgiving to improvised tools. Replacing a PGT roller without the right extraction clip can score the track, and a scored track means a full panel replacement, not just a roller. That said, there are two things an owner can safely do before calling. You can vacuum the track and clean it with a dry cloth, which sometimes resolves a dragging door when the real culprit is built-up grit. You can also check that the door is not visibly out of square by measuring diagonally from corner to corner. Beyond that, we recommend a trained technician, especially on WinGuard doors where the multipoint lock operates under spring tension. Give us a call at (626) 628-2308 and we will talk through what you are seeing, often without needing to schedule a visit first.
FAQs
A PGT door in Pasadena generally lasts 15 to 25 years, but the rollers, weatherstripping, and hardware typically need replacement at 8 to 12 years, sooner if the door faces west and gets direct afternoon heat that bakes the nylon components. If your door is past year ten and starting to drag, a hardware refresh now is far cheaper than a full slab replacement later. Call (626) 628-2308 and we will tell you what your door actually needs.
Yes, and in most cases the repair is the better choice. Rollers, hinges, sweeps, and lock mechanisms are all replaceable without changing the door slab itself. The only time we recommend replacing the entire door is when the frame or track is damaged, usually from forced operation or water intrusion over many years. We will always show you the worn part before we quote the fix.
A typical single-door hardware replacement takes two to three hours on site. A full slab swap, including removing the old panel and re-hanging the new one, takes half a day. We protect the floors with drop cloths the full time and clean up before we leave, with a photo to show you what the area looked like when we finished.
We carry the most common PGT rollers, hinges, sweeps, and locking hardware on our trucks for WinGuard, SpectraGuard, and ClassicVue doors. Specialized parts that are less common may take a few days to source, and we will tell you that timeline in writing before any work begins. If you need to know whether we have your part in stock, call (626) 628-2308 and a real person will check the shelf while you’re on the phone.
